Making it easier for sick parents to talk to their children

Waiting room videos for age-appropriate conversations about serious illness.

When a parent has a serious illness, they don’t always know how to talk to their children about what they’re going through in an age-appropriate way. Education can help ease the stress and uncertainty associated with these conversations. By developing a video module shown in the waiting room specifically-tailored to parents, we can change the dialogue in the health care community—and in the home. The videos would seek to empower patients to alleviate their child’s concerns, provide greater family support, and help children face the challenges ahead with knowledge, sensitivity, and strength.
